A content checklist for AI search: GEO readiness in 10 points
10 practical checks that raise the likelihood of systems like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity using your content as a source.
No one can guarantee which content generative search systems will pick as a source. But there are concrete things you can do to make your content suitable for that selection. The list below has 10 points you can check before publishing a page.
Technical access
- Is the door open to bots? Make sure your
robots.txtdoes not accidentally block bots such as GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended. Whether to block depends on your business model, but it should be a deliberate decision. - Is the content in the HTML? If important text loads only through JavaScript, some bots may not see it. Having the main content in the initial HTML response is the safest route.
- Is the page fast and stable? Very slow or error-prone pages cause problems both in classic search and for bots.
Content format
- Is the answer in the first paragraph? Give the answer to the question at the top of the page in 2–3 clear sentences. Detail and proof come after.
- Are headings questions or clear topics? Instead of vague headings like “Our services”, use clear ones like “What does an SEO service include?”.
- Are there quotable blocks? Definitions, step lists, comparison tables and short summaries should be understandable on their own.
- Is it concrete and verifiable? Give clear information instead of vague claims. If you use figures, state the source; do not use made-up or inflated numbers.
Trust signals
- Is there author and organization info? Who wrote it, which organization, how to reach them? This should be consistent on the page and in structured data.
- Is brand information consistent across the web? Your name, description and profile links should not contradict each other in different places.
- Is the content current? Update old information and show the update date.
Bonus: measurement
After applying the above, ask your target questions to the relevant AI systems at intervals and record whether your brand is mentioned and described correctly. Look at the trend over time, not a single result.
